The format
A baby book is one bound book, often covering everything from pregnancy through to the first birthday. Milestone cards are a small set, usually fifteen to thirty, with each card dedicated to one single moment, like a first smile or first steps.
The time it asks of you
A baby book usually asks for a few lines or a whole page per entry. A milestone card asks for a sentence, on one card, whenever that moment happens. If you're short on time, and most new parents are, this is the biggest difference between the two.
How forgiving each one is
A baby book is one continuous story, so missing an entry can feel like leaving a gap in the middle. With individual cards, there's no sequence to break. You can fill them in out of order, skip one, or come back to it months later, and it still works just fine.
What you're left with
A finished baby book becomes a single keepsake to sit on a shelf. A finished set of milestone cards gives you individual pieces you can display, frame, or tuck away in a keepsake box. Some parents love pinning a few favourites up, which isn't really something a book allows.
Which one suits you
